My Learning Path

I was given this award my graduating year of high school for advocating for myself and a few months later, I was diagnosed with ADHD. I understand the feeling of being different but not understanding why, which I believe can be useful in a classroom setting. I have learned how difficult it can be to advocate for yourself but through this experience, I have also learned how important it is to advocate and be there for others when they need it. Learning difficulties are a reality that exists in the classroom, keeping an empathetic and encouraging mindset is key when creating a plan for struggling students.

Wetaskiwin Heritage Museum

This photo was taken while working for Wetaskiwin District Heritage Museum when I was the Programming Assistant. It was Ancient Greece Day, and we were in the middle of our version of the Olympic high jump. Over the summer, I had planned crafts, games, and experiences for summer camp children for a week of fun in the museum. I learned through trial and error, some effective classroom management and the importance of having a backup plan when things go sideways. Sometimes, we have to wing it and come up with interactive lessons on the spot. It is vital to “fake it ‘till you make it” as I have learned, children can smell fear and uncertanty.

Grade Four Observation
Grade Four Observation

This photo is of my observational grade four class. I have learned so much about each individual student and their lives outside of school. This class reminds me to keep an open mind and a positive attitude while maintaining professional boundaries with each student. I have enjoyed my time with this class because I feel, it sets me up for my future as a teacher. I have been able to observe many different teaching styles along with structured versus unstructured subjects such as music and French. This experience has taught me the importance of structure and routine within the classroom.
